The Katy Perry Wiki

"Déjà Vu" is a song by Katy Perry that is featured as the fifth track on her fourth album, Witness.

Theme[]

The word 'déjà vu' is a French expression used to describe current event that has already happened in the past, or an event which has a strangely familiar feeling; one is seeing it all again, Katy uses the term to described a stagnant relationship where their arguments and issues are the same as they were in the past. When Katy sees their relationship, all she sees is the past repeating itself. She echoes this sentiment on track "Pendulum" later on in the album.

Background[]

An a capella snippet of the track was shared through Perry's Instagram story on March 14, 2017.[1] The song was also featured in the "Beyond the Page" augmented-reality cover app from Perry's spread with W Magazine. The clip features a distressed Perry driving in a car singing along to the song.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
I live off the echoes of your "I love you's"
But I still feel the blows from all of your "don't want to's" (Yeah)
When you're drunk, you say I'm the one
Then you wake up
You suck my hope up in a vacuum

[Chorus]
'Cause every day's the same
Definition of insane
I think we're running on a loop
Déjà vu
So tell me something new
Figure out the Rubik's Cube
I think we're running on a loop
Déjà vu

[Verse 2]
Your words are like Chinese water torture
And there's no finish line, always one more corner
Yeah, they slither like a centipede
Why do you keep me
At the end of a rope that keeps getting shorter?

[Chorus]
'Cause every day's the same
Definition of insane
I think we're running on a loop
Déjà vu
So tell me something new
Figure out the Rubik's Cube
I think we're running on a loop
Déjà vu

[Instrumental Bridge]

[Chorus]
'Cause every day's the same
Definition of insane
I think we're running on a loop
Déjà vu
So tell me something new (Something new)
Figure out the Rubik's Cube
I think we're running on a loop
Déjà vu (Déjà, déjà, déjà vu)
'Cause every day’s the same (Every day's the same)
Definition of insane (Definition of insane)
I think we're running on a loop
Déjà vu (Déjà, déjà, déjà vu)

[Outro]
Déjà vu
