"Double Rainbow" is a song written by Katy Perry and Sia Furler for Perry's fourth studio album, PRISM. Perry announced the title of the song in an interview during the ASCAP's I Create Music Exposition in April 2013.

Background and composition

When asked about the track, Perry said that "[Sia Furler] came in from a yoga class and said, 'I want to write a song called "Double Rainbow", so we have a song called "Double Rainbow"'." During a preview event for Prism, Perry revealed to industry insiders that writing and recording this track "allowed her to 'dump' pent-up emotions and gets [sic] things off her chest."

Perry co-wrote "Double Rainbow" with Greg Kurstin and Sia Furler. Kurstin produced the song and handled its guitar, keyboards, and programming. Audio engineering was helmed by Kurstin and Jesse Shatkin at Echo Studio, located in Los Angeles, California, with additional engineering handled by Alex Pasco. The final task of audio mixing was done by Manny Marroquin, who was assisted by Chris Galland and Delbert Bowers, at the Larrabee Sound Studios, located in Universal City, California.

Lyrics

You're a one-of-a-one, a one-of-a-kind
That you only find once in a lifetime
Made to fit like a fingerprint
A code that click and opens a gold mine

They say one man's trash is another man's treasure
When I found you it was all pitter-patter

Secretly, hit the lottery 'cause you're
Brighter than all of the Northern Lights
You speak to me even in my dreams
Wouldn't let you go for even the highest price

They say one man's trash is another girl's treasure
So if it's up to me I'm gonna keep you forever

'Cause I understand you
We see eye-to-eye
Like a double rainbow in the sky
And wherever you go, so will I
'Cause a double rainbow is hard to find

Was a phenomenon when you came along
Yeah, our chemistry was more than science
It was deafening, loud like lightning
It was striking, you couldn't deny it

They say one man's trash is another man's treasure
The two of us together make everything glitter

'Cause I understand you
We see eye-to-eye
Like a double rainbow in the sky
And wherever you go, so will I
'Cause a double rainbow is hard to find

To the bottom of the sea I'd go to find you
Climb the highest peak to be right beside you
Every step I take I'm keeping you in mind

'Cause I understand you
We see eye-to-eye
Like a double rainbow in the sky
And wherever you go, so will I
'Cause a double rainbow is hard to find

'Cause I understand you
We see eye-to-eye
Like a double rainbow in the sky
And wherever you go, so will I
'Cause a double rainbow is hard to find

Notes

  • Even though interviews say Bonnie McKee co-wrote the song, Sia mentioned on her personal Twitter account she had co-written it.
