"Walking on Air" is a song written by Katy Perry for her fourth studio album, PRISM. The song is one of the two songs that were in competition to be released before the album's actual release date, the other song being "Dark Horse". "Walking on Air" was released as a promotional single on September 30, 2013.

"Walking on Air" and "Dark Horse" are two songs off of Katy Perry's album, PRISM, that were in competition to be the second single, scheduled for release on September 17, 2013.
In order to launch the competition, fans could unlock the song titles, lyrics, and song samples by tweeting #KATYNOW on Twitter before Perry's performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, which took place on August 25, 2013. After the ceremony, voting was closed and the song with the most votes would win. The song received 36 percent of the votes with "Dark Horse" winning by nearly double the amount at 64 percent of the votes.[1]
Perry talked about the background of the track at the 2013 VMAs. "I was with my friend Mia Moretti and we were having a day at Central Park here in New York." She continued, "We happened upon this group of roller skaters...and they were going around roller skating to deep house music and I looked at her and was like 'I have to do a song like this'...a song like Crystal Waters, "100 Percent" or CeCe Peniston's "Finally"...I really want to bring that authentic 90's deep house song styling back."[2]
